Real good T-Bone

Sunday we started the morning off with a light breakfast.
I told Nancy I was going to take it easy for the day but that didn't work out as I went out side I notice once again how bad the rugs looked on the out side steps.
I had already bought some new rug runner and I had the grommets to do the work at hand.
Getting the measurement and cutting the rugs to size then I installed three grommets on each side.
These are usually attached with small springs but I find that the plastic wire ties work just as well.

I finished in time to take a short break then it was time to grill a couple of T-Bone Steaks that I bought on sale a couple of days ago.

Here is my steak with baked potato, cole slaw, onions and tomato.
The steaks were good and juicy and so tender.

Nancy had a sweet potato with her steak.  The steaks were around 12 oz  each and to much for us to eat all of it so there was enough left over for a snack some other time.

Yesterday was a day with a few chores of us getting ready to leave this coming Friday.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Rain is gone--for now

All the rain we have been having for a week is finally over, at least it has the last two days.

The sun is out and shining on the just picked tobacco field next door to the Wishing Well Campground where were are staying.

Also this is one of many of the golf communities in the Myrtle Beach area.
There are a lot of people that like their golfing so much that I've seen out in a hard rain playing.

Friday Nancy said she was overdue for a haircut so it was off to Great Clips for a haircut.
She was in and out in a short time.

Yesterday was of course was my college football games day.  So more or less I wore the Lazy Boy and myself out.
Avery good day for some of the teams as they upset the favorites.  Those are some of the best games to watch unless you are wanting the favorite team to win.
Anyway it was a nice relaxing day.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Getting by on a little

Wednesday Nancy wasn't feeling very well so I went back to the Roses Store to buy a extension handle for a window cleaner to use on the motor home windows.  The handle extends out to five feet so that will help me by me not having to climb a ladder to clean the windows.
Also while down in North Myrtle Beach I filled the car up with gas again with the fuel still being $2.25 a gallon.  I just filled it up when we were down there the other day so the tank just held $9.00 worth.

Yesterday morning I got up and ready then went to the Hardees Restaurant which is only a couple of miles down the road from us for our breakfast.
For me it was the special of two sausage and egg biscuits for $2.50 and because Nancy doesn't like sausage I got her bacon and egg biscuit not being on sale was $5.98.  Still a good deal and it will be for breakfast again in the morning.
I went to Shallotte to do some shopping.
First stop was to home depot for some supplies for a couple of projects that I'm going to do.
Next stop was to Dollar Tree for shower spray and Damp Rid because all the rain we have been having everything has a cool dampness to it.
Next up was Walmart for some vitamins we were getting low on.
I stopped at Hills again to get some items that were on sale.
Before I left town I got us a Little Caesar's Pizza.
So buying food for breakfast and again for supper at a cost of close to $15.00 including breakfast again this morning is pretty good getting by on a little if I have to say so myself.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Intercoastal Waterway

Not much going on yesterday since it was a raining off and on kind of day.
I did  go down to the Walgreen to pick up our medicine.

Once again I went down to see what was on the Intercoastal Waterway.
There were six kayakers out on the water enjoying the day.

Boaters out as usual going up and down the coast.

Nancy and I enjoyed the beef roast from the day before for our supper.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Dash air once again

Friday was a busy day again with a project that I have been putting off for sometime.
Our car (Little Red) which is a 2004 red cavalier has had an air conditioner problem for way too long so I thought I would look into the problem a little closer.  I knew the problem was the actuator door by the sound it was making a clicking sound.
So I went to google to see what needed to be done and the suggestions on you tube.  Also the cost if I would take it in to a service place which said the cost would be $600 to $800 because of the difficulty of the labor involved. On you tube they showed how the dashboard would have to be removed in order to get to the actuator.  After checking things out I decided I could do it myself by getting at it from beneath the dash and in order to do that I would remove the front passenger seat so I would be more comfortable lying on my back.

After taking the actuator off I was off to Advance Auto to get a new one.
From there I went to hills to get a few groceries then I picked us up a pizza from Little Caesar's.

After getting back home Nancy ask if I was going to eat and I told her I would rather wait until I was finish with the car than eat the pizza and have to lay on my back to finish up with the car because at times pizza doesn't agree with me anyway.
Checking my time with the car including taking the seat out and putting it back in took all of 45 minutes.
Not to shabby in the it saved me at least $600.

Saturday started off good with Nancy fixing me a good breakfast as always on Saturday.
Two eggs with peppers and onions, two sausage patties, two small slider biscuits, a fried hash brown patty that with a cup of coffee tasted mighty good.

Well it was another trip to Walmart because although the actuator door was working the air coming out of the dash vents were not cooling enough so I had to buy a can of freon to put in.
Back hone I added the freon and after a short time checking the temperature it measured 47 degrees so good enough with the car setting still and idling.

With being caught up for the day I settled into my lazy boy and watched a couple of college football games the rest of the day.

5 stops all day

Yesterday was another full day for Nancy and myself.
Our first stop of the day was to take some Christmas Decorations that we no longer use to the Goodwill Store.

We've been wanting to go to the Roses Store since we arrived here so yesterday was the day.
We like the stores and every chance we get while traveling we stop to see what they have in stock which is always changing.

We spent quite something looking and buying in Roses and by the time we were finished we getting mighty hungry.
We drove down the strip and back up then stopped to eat at a Friday's.
Nancy had a chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and I had the Really Good Cheeseburger which did live up to its name.  The burger had what looked like 8 oz. of meat with bacon, cheese, tomato, onion and lettuce on it.  I said it was a really really good cheese burger.

The next stop was to fill up with gas at $2.25 a gallon, how could I not fill it up.
I guess since they are vacating the oil platforms in the gulf now that Hurricane Nate is coming in the prices will go up again.

Then it was a stop at a Walmart to return a shirt I bought that was to large for me.

Just like the other day by the time we got home unloaded the car of the things we bought and put away it was dark for the night.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Long day for us

Yesterday was a busy day for us.
First we went to the Laundromat in Shallotte to do the laundry which was a little overdue and that took a couple of hours so after doing the laundry/

We chose to go to the San Felipe Mexican Restaurant we have eaten here many times so we know the food has been good in the past.

We gave our order and then the waiter brought out the chips and dip.  Nancy does not like the salsa that much since it is always on the hot side for her so she ordered the cheese dip for her self.
We enjoyed the chips and dip so much that we ate the all of the chips.

We ordered the mixed for two which was half chicken and the other half steak.  that with each of us getting a plate of rice, refried beans and salad with guacamole and sour cream.
We both were hungry and that meal sure did taste good to us.

With our hunger satisfied we were off to Walmart for our groceries and a few other things.
That trip to Walmart took over an hour and we were out the door and on our way again.

Not very far though because I wanted to stop at Hills grocery store for a few items and to look around to see what they had on sale that we might need.

Then finally with that being the last stop and on the way home.
By the time we got home and had everything put away it was dark and an end to our long day.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Weekend Ramblin

Saturday was a college football day for me to watch a few games.  Although some of the games that I had hoped would be good to watch was not that good because instead of a close game was a blow out for one of the teams.

We finished up the chicken fettuccine alfredo that Nancy and I put together. It was really good so we will have to fix some more of it in the future.

Yesterday was a nice peaceful day for us.  I even grilled up some chicken breasts and cube steaks, enough for three days of meals.  We had the grilled chicken breasts yesterday with a couple of sides and it tasted good.

I don't know what we will be doing today but I'm sure we may find something to get into.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Laid back time

I'm still getting caught up on some small projects around the motor home.  I've had to work on the slide out bed again.  One of the rollers came lose and was underneath the bed so that involved raising the bed up enough to get it out and reinstalling the roller. The other roller only had one screw holding it so had to do it as it should have been from the factory.
I don't think too much of the quality control in putting out new recreational vehicles because too many of them need to be completed after you buy them.

The campground here maybe small but he sure does rent out a lot of space for storage.

I went to Walgreens the other day to pick up one of Nancy's prescription drugs and thought I would drive the short distance down the dead end street to see what was down there.
The street ends at a very nice view of the Intercostal Waterway.

Here is a view of Ocean Isle Beach across the water to the north.

I came at the right time to see the Andrea Dawn shrimp boat coming in to port.

There she goes to her port probably down in Calabash with a load of fresh shrimp.

Sunset Beach is a small laid back place but has a lot of people living in houses, trailers and a few maybe six story tall condo's.  The main grocery store is a Food Lion that stay's busy.

Talking about laid back that's what we do except sometimes getting caught up on some things that need our attention at the time.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Short trip to the beach

Nancy and I got out yesterday for a little drive down in Myrtle Beach and back home.

On the way back we stopped in Calabash to have something to eat.  I told Nancy I had a craving for spaghetti all day so we went to Tony's Pizza to try out their spaghetti.
As it turned out that Tony's has really  good spaghetti and we were satisfied with our choice.

We went out to beach to see how Maria was doing with the in coming waves.

Here was one with a lot of spray with it.

This was one of the large ones that was maybe six foot high.
We stayed and enjoyed the nice soft ocean breeze that was just right coming in.

Coming in on the boardwalk I looked over the side and saw these flowers in the sand dunes.

As we were coming home we saw these dark clouds moving in.  We said we hope we made it home before it started raining.
Well we did get home before it rained as far as that went it didn't rain at all.

We had a nice drive and a nice evening with our meal and a short trip to the beach.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Hurricane Maria

We have been here for two days Nancy and I have been resting up from the traveling that we have had and it sure does feel good not doing much of anything.

Of course while resting there are still a few things that has to be taken care of like the usual cleaning and keeping a check on things.
One of the important things that I have been putting off was the black water valve has been leaking for to long but in order to change it I had to wait for when we had a full hook up.
We had a full hook up the first of this month at our Family Reunion that was for three or four days and I didn't want to be doing that to take away time from visiting.
So this weekend was a good time to give the black tank a good flushing and change the valve.
It took a little time doing it because like so many things the designer on motor homes and cars never think about making it easy to repair stuff and kind of putting it in hard to reach places.

But now that's finished so on to the next item in order to be worked on whatever may come up.

It looks like it will be a few days for us going to the beach with Hurricane Maria setting out there in the Atlantic.
We are here in Sunset Beach on the border between North Carolina and South Carolina which is in no danger as of now.
Only rain and 5 to 9 foot high waves with rain.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Mountains to Ocean

We left Clayton, Georgia Wednesday late afternoon after checking out three places that I thought we would be staying.
Well upon checking all three being Corp of Engineer Campgrounds and with no available sites for the rest of the month at which time they will close for the season I had to decide on where to go.
So with the easy way out I asked Nancy what she thought of just going to Sunset Beach, North Carolina for a month and after a time of discussion we were on our way to the beach town.
As we saw this load of pumpkins at a roadside market we stopped to look around.
Nancy bought some local grown apples that she looked at that later on proved to taste good.
We liked this Red Neck Bird Bath but didn't buy one.

We made it to Columbia just right to hit it as it was the workers quitting time and slow traffic.

After getting through the traffic of Columbia it was on route 378 for us with more slow downs as the were working on making the roads to four lanes.  Here is three large cranes at one bridge.

We made it to Sumter and spent the night at the Walmart.
We left Walmart yesterday after getting ready.

And in a few hours driving through North Myrtle Beach.

We then drove to Calabash, North Carolina to have something to eat before getting to Wishing Well Campground in Sunset Beach.
Its a good thing we did eat because by the time we got to the campground it came a real down pour of rain that lasted way to long but we did finally got set up.

In the woods

Well finally have a phone and data signal after almost a week.
we left Douglas Lake last Friday on our way to Smokemont Campground close to Cherokee.
Instead of driving around the Great Smokie Mountains I wanted to see how the old motor home would do going over the mountain.
It just so happened to be the rod run that weekend and the most crowd I have seen here.

It was real slow going but Nancy and I enjoyed seeing the old cars.  We did manage to get through and on to Gatlinburg.
Between the traffic lights and stopping for people in the cross walks some more time but a lot faster getting through than Pigeon Forge.

Now to see how the motor home would do on the long mountain climb.
I was really surprised at how the old machine did, it was a real champ climbing up at a good speed not slowing down much and ran real cool without the engine temperature getting hot.

We stopped on top of the mountain at Newfoundland Gap to have a sandwich while we enjoyed the scenery of the mountain tops in the distance.

Coming down the mountain I let the lower gears slow me down so I hardly had to use the brakes.
We got down the mountain and pulled into the campground.

Checked in at the office then set up at our site for the next four days.
It was really soothing and peaceful listening to the river running over the rocks while going to sleep at night.
We even got to see an elk feeding out in the large field.  We were the first ones to stop on the roadside but soon there was a large line of cars stopped and people taking pictures of the elk.

But our time was soon up and yesterday we left Smokemont Campground.
Coming through Cherokee we spotted a laundromat so we pulled in and did a couple of loads of laundry then we were on our way.

We got to Clayton, Georgia and spent the night at the Walmart.

New look at Campground

It has been rain every day and into the night since Monday although there have been a few breaks in the day time.
There is a lot of construction going on at the Douglas Lake Headwaters Campground since Recreation Resource Management has a lease on the campgrounds.
Of course with what they are doing comes with a price increase which most of the people sure don't think too much of.
Personally I liked the old look it had instead of the private look it is becoming.
This is some people enjoying a day of horse back riding that Nancy and I saw when we were going out to do some shopping yesterday.
We had to get a few thing for when we stay at the Smokemont Campground on the Cherokee side of the mountain.  It is no doubt cheaper in price here rather than the other side in Cherokee.

We also ate at a Mexican Restaurant while we were in town and at the price of buy one get the other on half price was a good deal.
Here is the Steak Fajita that I had while Nancy had the Chicken Fajita.
Both meals were very good and filling with a lot of meat in both meals.

No over the Smokies

Yesterday I said we were going over the Smokie Mountains where we had reservations at the Smokemont Campgrounds.

We got up early had a quick breakfast, took care of all the inside stuff for travel mode.
I took the car down to the boat launch area where I always hook back up to the motor home.
I then walked back up the hill, disconnected the electric, raised the levelers then to hook up the car.

Next was to the dump station to empty the tanks me thinking when I get back in the motor home we would be on our way.

It was then Nancy said she got the phone call that said "due to high winds all reservations are cancelled until the 14th".
So now what to do?
Well we got another four days at the Douglas Lake Campground and set up another reservation for the Smokemont Campground.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Over The Smokie Mountains

It is time to make a move we have been in the Pigeon Forge area for two weeks in three different campgrounds.

This past week end was seeing a lot of old cars and trucks from the past.

I have seen a bunch of the old cars that brought back a lot of memories.

We will leave today making a first trip of going over the Smokies in our motor home.
We will spend a few days in the Smokemont Campground in Cherokee.
This will also be a first staying at a campground in The Smokie Mountains.

By staying a few days will give us a chance to check out a few things in Cherokee.
We have driven through many times but have never camped on this side of the mountains so we hope we may see some of the wild animals.

I will not doubt be off line for our time here because the phone and internet is mostly none.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Smokie Mountain Top

Friday we called Haven to see if he wanted to go with us to the top of The Smoky Mountains.
This has become our annual thing to do when we are in this area.

Haven did want to go and after picking him up we were going up the mountain a short time afterwards.
We stopped on the way up to look at the Chimney Tops which looked more like the mountains in the west since the large fire that was in the mountains a ways back. It will be sometime before the vegetation starts to grow.
Looking way down in the valley on the road below is a car you may see.

Once on top you get a breath taking view of the mountain tops that doesn't show up in the photo.

Coming back down the mountain you can see the reds in the trees that are starting to turn.

Once down the mountain I decided to go to Cades Cove where we haven't been in a few years.
I was hoping to see some wild life and I did see some wild turkeys and one bear in the thick forest that I couldn't get a clear photo of.

One thing is the large open fields that always make for a clear great photo.

Some of the old homesteads have building on them.

With all the beauty of the mountains and the large open fields one can imagine why these people fell in love with this area.

After seeing all this it was late so we stopped to eat at Steak and Shake for a good meal which Haven enjoyed with a chocolate milkshake.
We then dropped Haven off at his house and came home where we took off our shoes and had a good relaxing for what was left off a very enjoyable day.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
